how i nearly won
but i lost

the only bad thing about coming second
is that to the winners stand you are never beckoned
my fault entirely
but at least i can be
disqualified

and as the running track widens
and the leader gets frightened
by non-consecutive warheads being fired from the maple tree
i start to overtake
which is my only mistake
as one pace before the line the ground opens up and swallows me
and as there were no other competitors in this race
i came second but disgraced
the destiny for me
is to never win anything properly
